next year F1 engines will be the half of that engine, i hope ferrari and mclaren can pull up their performance with all the changes made, its like starting from zero

And I'm kind of perplexed by the changes they made. It's costing so much money to start from scratch, yet the engine size didn't decrease that much considering they're now going to be turbo charged. The engines will be putting out the same or more power soon and F1 will have to keep changing rules and restricting technology to make the top speeds safe again.
Maybe they should have gone with an even lower displacement, maybe 1.2L. And what would be really interesting (but never happen) would be to only specify the engine displacement, but put no limit on the number of cylinders or turbo configuration. Maybe someone would have come up with a 1.2L quad turbo V12 =D

i like that idea, same displaacement and do whatever engine you want, like a boxer 12

That would be sooo sweet. Bring back the old days where different constructors could come up with their own approaches.

Or they could say to hell with this BS, make everyone at the track on race day sign a safety waiver, and let the drivers decide when they are going too fast. That's what brakes are for.

yeah, Also i would like the FIA to be less hard on the rules, i mean, im not a Vettel fan but i liked his celebration on the Indian GP grid, and he was fined 25,000 for those donuts.
edit 25,000 euro

Haha true. Then if it got too risky for the experienced drivers that are already rich they can call on opponauts to risk their lives to entertain the masses.
I just looked up F1 salaries out of curiosity. Here is a list from 2012:
http://www.crash.net/f1/news/180405…
Look at the huge difference between the guys at the top and the bottom! I hope the guys making $150-200K euros a year are still getting endorsement deals. Could you imagine being an F1 driver and having to watch what you spend when you're out on the town in Monaco? I went to Europe once around 2002 and shit is expensive there.

They fined him for the first interesting thing he did, haha.

I'm thinking of starting a no-rules, winner-takes-all racing series. I want to see what people would come up with. Think of it- the champion gets it all. Second place is the first loser.
And yeah, I'd hate to be the driver at the party like "yeah, guys, I gotta go home after one drnk. I got to watch my spending, these drinks are freaking pricey. And no way I can afford that restaurant, I think I'm just gonna make a sandwich at my hotel."

There should at least be some rules on what maximum driver-fired missile size and payload. And heat-seeking missiles should not be allowed. It would be interesting for drivers to have to learn to aim.
Lol to having to make a sandwich at the hotel. That driver would have to settle for a fat cousin of one of the models that hang out with the higher paid drivers.

You're right. How about a .50 cal maximum, we don't need people getting hurt now do we? And you have to hold the gun with one hand, to keep another on the wheel.
And we know Charles Pic and Paul di Resta went in half on a room together, so I don't think they will be doing anything there except making sandwiches.

Haha. They probably have to fly Ryanair too and pay out of pocket to check their luggage

Check their luggage? Dude, if it doesn't fit in a carry on it doesn't need to go. Getting the racing suits to the track is the teams problem.
But F1 drivers have to ride around in style. Upgrade that rental to a 1.2 Fiat Panda, please.

Lol. I think Ryanair charges for carry on baggage too.
And good thing F1 drivers are thin. They fly in the super cheap stand-up section if it Ryanair has it now (I know they were looking into it at one point):

10 lbs of carry-on is free.
Oh great. Nothing sounds like more fun than a trans-Atlantic flight standing up. Thanks, Airbus. Who don't we just cram people into a big cargo plane?
Imagine how many people you could cram in that bitch?

The Airbus Beluga is a funny looking plane. I think airlines should put passengers into coffin-like boxes they can move around and stack on top of each other to maximize the use of space in the plane. Like this
Maybe with a small window to see out. That would obviously be a first class transport pod, what with the pillow and padding. But you get the idea.

I thought it was a joke the first time. Now I see you posted a real pic. I looked it and see it's used for cargo.
There are some people in Toyko that would be OK with luxury coffins. They have micro apartments there that aren't much bigger

I think Japan would be a great place to test this out. The only thing they like less than being late is conventional thinking. Not to mention, their small size would allow another row of people on the plane!

Next years F1 engines will have an 'effective' displacement of between 5.6 and 7.2 liters (that's not even including the much higher redline) so no, it's not like they're starting from nothing. Especially since they would have vastly improved airflow.
Fuel economy is what is hurting next years engine's the most, otherwise they could pull 1200HP all day long, and 1500HP if they raised the redline to the limits. In reality, they'll be brought down to around 850HP and have great fuel efficiency for a race car engine.

em no.
redline is lowered from the V8s 18k rpm to V6 14k rpm.
So is displacement, V8 2.4, the V6 its 1.6 or so
yeah they start from scratch, its a new engine.
also Aerodynamics regulations change Nose spoiler will be lowered etc....

I'm comparing it to the 1959 engine, but let's calculate it with the redline though:
18000 (RPM) * 2.4 (displacement)* 1 (boost) = 43200
14000 (RPM) * 1.6 (displacement) * 4.5 (boost) = 100800
These new engines should have twice the available airflow than the previous ones.
I'm so glad that they're changing the regulations. They needed it. Its not bad that the cars are different, it's just sad that they're not outputting at their peak potential.

The plaque says "1989 World Championship". No coil on plug and EFI in 1959, I assure you. Still gorgeous, though.
